Behind the Eye chronicles the incredible forgotten life story of Lee Miller. A former Vogue cover model's interest in photography leads her into the arms of artist Man Ray and the budding surrealist movement. When WWII breaks out, Lee volunteers to be a war photographer, travels with the troops, and witnesses the liberation of Dachau. Struggling with alcoholism and PTSD, Lee put away her camera permanently after the war and lived the rest of her days out in the country. Her refusal to rejoin the art world or allow her work to be shown has let the name of this incredible artist fade from history.
